IC Information:
Name:  Fai D Flourite in canon, reborn as Fenn "Fay" Forster (Fay starting as his nickname at the club and now being the name he introduces himself with.)
Canon: Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle
Age: 23 - In canon it is pointed out that he has lived 'several times' the lifespan of someone who is around 25, suggesting that he might well be over a hundred years, but obviously that doesn't work in game.
Preincarnation Appearance:
Here.
Any differences: No scars on his hands from trying to climb the tower. No vampire physiology traits (aka eyes turning yellow and slitted with anger or in the presence of blood, spontaneously growing claws). His eyes are a slightly different shade, a bit more grey than before. The reincarnated him has somewhat different taste in clothes.

Preincarnated History: He was born a twin in a country where twins were seen as bad luck, and he and his brother were imprisoned for this crime somewhere around age two or three. His twin was locked at the top of a tower, while he was put in the pit below, surrounded by the corpses of those their country deemed sinful, and with unscalable cliffs keeping him from escaping. They were given nothing to eat or drink or protect them from the cold, but were kept alive by their great magical power.

After an undefined number of years, a rift between dimensions appears before both children, and a man called Fei Wang Reed makes them both a deal: One of them can leave, but only at the cost of the other's life. Both twins make the same choice, asking to die so the other can be free. Fai, the one imprisoned in the tower, is the one Fei Wang Reed listens to, and he plunges to his death from the tower. Fei Wang Reed then modifies Yuui's memory and tricks him into believing that he had in fact traded his twin's life for his own freedom. He offers the distraught child a new deal: If he agrees to serve him in his quest to rewrite the laws of all universes - and thereby largely destroy said universes - Fei Wang Reed promises to bring his twin back to life. He agrees. Fei Wang Reed also places two curses on him then. The first is that he will kill the first person he meets who is more powerful than him, the other is that unless he is the one who kills the person who will come to get him, the world he will be brought to will be torn apart by his magic. Fei Wang Reed manipulates his memory to make him forget the second curse.

When Yuui's savior arrives, a king from another world called Ashura, he asks for the child's name, and he replies that he is Fai - he intends to keep his twin's name until the day he can give it back.

Fai grows up loved and revered by the subjects of Celes and doted on by Ashura. But as he starts to reach maturity, the people of Celes begin to die. It turns out that Ashura is the one behind it, killing to gain power in the hope of activating both curses in Fai and thereby saving him. But Fai is unable to kill his savior and father even when faced with all those deaths, and instead puts a spell on Ashura that will make him sleep and flees from that world into the world where the Dimensional Witch Yuuko lives, with the intention of trading with her for a wish - the wish to travel between worlds.

There he meets up with the group that Fei Wang Reed has intended for him to travel with, Kurogane, Syaoran, Sakura and Makona. Unbeknownst to the rest of the group, Fai's job is to act as a protector for Princess Sakura as she travels in search of her scattered memories - or rather, her body, which by traveling will gain imprints of different worlds upon it and thereby become a tool powerful enough to allow a person to bring back the dead. He is also to act as an executioner for another of the companions, Kurogane, who Fei Wang Reed tried to turn into his tool in a way similar to what he did to Fai, by killing his parents, but who was saved from this by the co-operation of Yuuko - Fei Wang Reed's opponent in his endeavor - and a woman in Kurogane's world, Princess Tomoyo.

While traveling with their group, Fai comes to love and care about his companions, and his resolve is shaken, leading him to be incredibly reckless with his own life. If he dies, after all, he will be unable to betray them, and will not have to live with betraying his twin once again. At one point, while mortally wounded and with half his magic stripped away, he even asks to be allowed to die - and the man that he has sworn himself to kill, Kurogane, refuses to let it happen, instead making a deal with Yuuko to turn Fai into a vampire, and to bind himself to him for the rest of both their lifespans as his only source of food.

Fai tries to distance himself from the group after this, realizing that he has allowed himself to get far too close to them, but he cannot bring himself to draw away from Sakura. And when Sakura regains another part of her memory, she also regains a part of her power, and as her power then exceeds Fai's, his curse activates. He runs her through with a sword, and then tries to kill himself, but is stopped once again by Kurogane. It turns out, however, that Sakura had seen that Fai's curse would activate in the future, a future in which Fai instead killed Syaoran before going mad with grief and killing both Kurogane and himself, and had put herself in harm's way, putting her faith in a deal made with Yuuko to save her soul. Her soul is sent into one world, the world of dreams, while her body is sent to Celes and received by Ashura, who is then awake.

In Celes Ashura tries to force Fai to kill him by showing his companions his past and trying to pit them against him, but instead it ends with Kurogane killing Ashura and Fai's false memories being undone, making him remember that his twin died by his own wish and not his. The second curse activates, and Fai's magic starts to tear the world they're in apart, but Kurogane saves his life by sacrificing his own arm, and the four of them escape with Sakura's body. They end up in Nihon because Princess Tomoyo makes a deal with Yuuko to make it so, and Fai then makes a deal with Yuuko where he gives up the rest of his magic for a mechanical arm for Kurogane.

They then travel on to Sakura's home world and country, Clow, where they finally face down Fei Wang Reed. Fai has his magic returned at full strength during a part of that battle, and Fei Wang Reed is killed, the damage that he has done to the universe undone. But because of events FAR TOO COMPLICATED TO EVEN BEGIN TO EXPLAIN, Syaoran's existence has by then become a time paradox, and to keep existing he needs to keep travel between worlds and never stay for long. Fai and Kurogane decide to join him for as long as they both live - since their lifespans presumably still are tied together.

Reincarnated History: Fenn doesn't know whom his biological parents were. He grew up with his adoptive parents and siblings in a small town in USA, and for the first half of his life had no idea about being adopted. But he was still always a bit the odd one out. He'd been too small to remember not being a part of his family, it had nothing to do with that, but he had a hart time staying still for long, had a tendency for getting distracted from he what he was doing, often wandered off and got lost, and frequently talked back to adults instead of doing what he was told - all traits which made him a "trouble child" in the eyes of most grownups. Thus at the age of twelve, his parents sat him down and told him he was adopted, hoping that him finding out and receiving therapy would make him mellow out a little bit.

Instead, the revelation made him feel even more like an outsider, and the fact that he hadn't been told before then he took as a betrayal. While he had before merely been hyperactive and a bit attention-seeking, this set off a full-blown teenage rebellion. At age sixteen this included kissing a boy and finding out he liked it, and his father finally put his foot down. He would stop that nonsense at once or he could find himself someplace else to live. Fenn choose curtain number two, threw himself and a few belongings onto a bus to Locke city, got himself a job washing dishes at a restaurant and never looked back. Well, not much. Not so that it was noticeable.

Nowadays he works as a bartender and occasional dancer at a gay club. After falling head over heels for and having his heart thoroughly broken by a woman at age 19, he figured out he was actually bisexual, but he feels more comfortable in that scene since most people tend to assume that he's gay anyway. He tends to a rather self-destructive lifestyle, which in his case means lots of alcohol, party drugs, clubbing and sex with complete strangers. The two latter aren't that destructive in themselves, but when combined with the two former with the intent to numb the feeling of being lost and very lonely, they are.

First Echo: For all that his previous life has been very dramatic, his first Echo was incredibly mundane. His friend was teaching him to make chocolate fondants, and Fai found himself saying, "We should serve them with whipped cream, they taste better that way." His friend, a bit taken aback, asked if he'd had them before, even though he'd had no idea what they were when he first mentioned them. And Fai, of course, hadn't. But going through the motions of making them, he felt as if he'd done it all before, and ended up doing things before his friend told him to - a memory of his stay in a world called Outo where he and his traveling companions had a café called the Cat's Eye and used chocolate fondants as their signature dish. Easy enough to pass off as deja vu, but it left him with a feeling that there was something he'd forgotten, a string of numbers in his mind, and a sudden and quickly squashed wish to run his own café.

Preincarnation Personality: Fai appears at first to be very agreeable, cheerful, nonchalant, and quite often rather annoying. And in a way, that is exactly what he is. His surface persona as a very social, flamboyant, eccentric and more than a bit obnoxious creature is one he retains a large part of even after he no longer has to to keep up any pretenses. It is merely a part of his own personality which he exaggerates to cover up his ulterior motives as well as all the hurt that has been done to him through his life. The only really false part of his personality is the cold and sometimes downright cruel act he puts up when called out on smiling even when he's unhappy or when someone veers a bit too close to the truth. Ironically enough, Fai is convinced that that part is the truest side of him.

Anyone who spends even a short amount of times with Fai will notice that despite his carefree demeanour, he is very perceptive, and very sensitive to the emotions of the people around him – as long as they do not pertain to him in person, where he seems to have a huge blind spot. He is highly intelligent and possesses a deep wisdom and understanding which he usually masks by acting as if he’s merely making wild guesses without substance.

Due to a very painful past fraught with loss and guilt, he has troubles letting people get too close, and sees it as his obligation to keep people at arm’s length lest he hurt them. He believes he is always going to be the cause of unhappiness in others, and it is very obvious that he hates himself for it, and regards his own life as not worth very much at all. He only really seems to care about the outcome of any fight if someone else’s fate hinges on it. So he tries to keep people from getting to know too much by presenting himself as a cheerful, illusive nature, seemingly without much substance or depth.

However, despite his best efforts, Fai is a very affectionate person, and seems to attach himself to others very strongly and care very deeply for those that manage to get under his skin. He also genuinely seems to be concerned with the troubles of strangers, and he will unselfishly lend them a hand without being too concerned with what kind of discomfort this might bring him. However, Fai doesn’t see himself as kind (“I have never been kindhearted. All I’ve ever been is weak.”) and it is true that he is quite capable of lying repeatedly to his friends and through omission and passivity put them in harm’s way if that means achieving what he truly desires. He seems to think that the fact that he cares about the people he deceives only makes him a worse person, and it could be argued that he has a point.

Since Fai has been a very lonely person all of his life, it is not strange that he is extremely protective – sometimes unhealthily so – about the people he cares about, and seems to suffer from rather severe abandonment issues, having great troubles letting go and letting others take care of themselves. His habit of distancing himself from others can be seen as an extension of this: He doesn’t believe that other people are capable of judging what is best for them, and so he makes the choice for them.

If someone gets too close, he will do this by either trying simply to deflect their attention or change the subject completely, or on rare occasions when caught off guard, by revealing a small slice of the truth before quickly clamming up again, possibly in an attempt to confuse and deter further probing. At the point when he feels that he has become too important to someone, he will try to drive them off by becoming cold and heavily passive-aggressive, and by trying to do as much emotional harm as possible in an attempt to drive the person off. For their own good, of course.

Any differences: Fenn Forster, while definitely having a self-destructive personality, understandably doesn't possess the deep self-loathing and death wish that the version of him who has lived through so much loss - most of which he blames on himself - feels for most of his life. But nor has he gone through the healing process of finding people he actually cares deeply about. He exercises destructive behavior because he's a lonely person and because brief thrills and more shallow pleasures distracts him sufficiently from this fact.

His past has landed him with a fear of getting close to others, but not so much because he fears harming others as he fears being hurt himself - and this coupled with some rather severe abandonment issues and fear of disappointment has given him a more direct aversion towards commitment to anything, be it partners or any kind of long-term goals.

And while he comes off, just as his preincarnated version, like a very flippant, illusive and fun-loving person - which, just like his preincarnated version, he is - his reason for exaggerating it and hiding his insecurities is more a mode of self-defense rather than a way of disguising any particular motives.

A smaller difference is that this Fai, who has never been raised a prince by the gentle and even-tempered Ashura, and hasn't been tempered by a far longer life-span, is a bit cattier, a bit more sarcastic, and occasionally even vulgar.

Abilities: Fai's abilities are in his canon rather loosely written off as "very powerful magic". During the first part of his journey with his companions he abstains from it completely, and pretends that it is lesser than it actually is. What you actually see him doing, however, includes dimensional travel, creating a sentient being (with the help of one of Sakura's memory fragments, however), extremely powerful offensive magic in various forms, the creation of powerful force-fields, and the ability to sense other kinds of magic/supernatural forces/anomalies in the structure of time and space. We also know that half of his magic, after already being sufficiently weakened, is enough to tear apart an entire dimension. The only thing that's expressedly stated that he can't do is heal with his magic. How much of this will return to him with the Echoes, and how much he can use without any magical training except for fragmentary memories of another life, will hopefully be enough to sufficiently limit it.

Apart from that he moves like a gymnast ninja performing parkour and is able to adapt himself to just about any weapon in very short time. His vampire physiology also means increased reflexes/stamina/strength/healing capacity, and the ability to randomly grow claws as long as his arm if he feels like it. Being a vampire doesn't make him weak to sun or holy water, but it doesn't make him immortal either, and a sufficient amount of damage will kill him just like anyone else.

Fai spent all his time from that he was saved by Ashura until he traveled away from Celes studying. Magic, of course - apparently including the making of potions - and he is trained hand-to-hand combat as well as the use of several weapons, particularly ranged ones. However, considering how knowledgeable he is of just about everything, it is safe to assume that his studies included other things as well. He has extensive knowledge of the nature of parallel universes, fate (hitzusen), and people's hearts/souls. He has learned how to rule a kingdom by Ashura's side, this knowledge including such things as diplomacy, economics and a rudimentary understanding of agriculture. He is skilled at reading people, suggesting some knowledge of psychology. He is a very skilled cook, he draws well, and is able to administer basic first aid. He has learned how to speak the language of Nihon rather well. Travelling innumerable universes during his lifespan has given him an insight in a number of subjects, including xenozoology- and botany, other forms of "magic", mechanics and bits and pieces of the cuisine of a number of worlds. He knows Valerian well enough to both speak and read it (on a child's level), the native tongue of Celes fluently, and he can write and presumably speak the language of magic.

Roleplay Sample – Third Person:

He's weaving in and out among sweating bodies and heavy bass beats - his shift on the stage is done and he needs to change before taking his place behind the bar. For all that the whole place is sweltering with body heat, the space by the bar disk is well air-conditioned, and working a shift there in hotpants is a mistake you only make once. He pauses a couple of times to exchange a quick shouted greeting with people he knows, he smiles at everyone he passes, resisting the temptation of getting dragged onto the dancefloor. Not tonight, not while he's working.

When he returns from changing, another dancer has taken the stage - it's the new guy, Tonio, his long, curly black hair accentuated by a costume in black lace. Fay grimaces a bit - it look tacky, he would've looked much better in something simpler, but he supposes that it's not his problem. He leans against the bar as the DJ announces that their newest find, Clover, will dance to Long for Joy, City of Wind remix and-

-and suddenly the world falls away, and he feels as if he's been scooped out and left an empty shell, the initial beat of the song throbbing like a heartbeat. And he remembers. This has happened before, hasn't it? Only it's... wrong. He's on the wrong side of the bar. And he finds himself looking around for the girl with white hair, and- and there should be someone next to him, and the person on stage should be a woman, and I've always been the one who waited for the one who would take me away and oh god the words that were stuck in his throat, how they burned him, and for a moment he had just wanted to finally let go. He'd wanted to look at the person next to him - funny how he couldn't remember their face, just their eyes - and ask him to please save him. But the words wouldn't come and he had smiled dizzily, and now he repeats the words he'd said then, "And with that, I guess I've made you hate me even more."

Deryn gives him a weird look. "What the hell are you doing? Look at this fucking mess, are you high?"

He's spilled ice cubes all over the floor. He's still squeezing handfuls of ice, his fingers red with cold. He turns his gaze toward the stage, but there's no woman singing there, just an oiled latino guy in lace putting on a show. He feels sick and dizzy, but he can't show it, because Deryn is already suspicious and he might lose his job - not for being high, like they care about that, but for being dumb enough to let it show. He's not even on something, but like hell they'll believe him. He's not even sure he believes it himself. The memory felt real, so very real, but it didn't fit in his life anywhere. Since when had he been looking for a savior?

Except now he feels like he does.

"Sorry, my hand slipped." He laughs, kicking the ice towards a grill in the floor. He's back and working in a blur of bottles and tumblers, smiling flirtatiously at the customers and ignoring Deryn's dark looks. He knows he's going to hear a reprise of 'I told you to take it easy on the stuff' once their shift is over, but he doesn't answer to Deryn or anybody else. Not even the red eyes which he knows he'll dream about this night, that brief and unexplained image of irises like blood and pupils that felt like needles as they went right through him and made him feel like

nothing.

Roleplay Sample - Network:
[In the condensed droplets of water after a shower a number is traced, slowly dissolving as the water starts to run. A distracted voice speaks, as the speaker's eyes follow the path of one of the small rivulets.]

I remember this feeling. This- It's like electricity on my skin, only it isn't really. Electricity in my mind - not in my head, but in my actual thoughts. Does that sound weird to you at all?

[He hesitates, meeting his own blue eyes in the reflection and once more feeling as if there's something he's forgotten. Something about his eyes. Something important. But he comes up with nothing.]

Is there anyone out there who knows what I'm talking about? Anyone at all? I'm starting to think that I'm kind of going insane here, you know. It's not a very nice feeling.

[And then he exhales explosively, the numbers once more outlined starkly to him, before he hurriedly wipes them away.]
